Project Name: Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) New STEM Building
Project Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Project Value: $24 Million
Project Type: Higher Education Science/Lab Facility | CM@Risk Delivery
Project Highlights: Branch Builds was selected over strong national competition for this state-of-the-art, high-tech STEM Building, adding to our impressive science/lab project resume. The 72,000-square-foot facility, dedicated to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, is the largest on-campus and was designed with input from faculty and staff to serve the region’s growing needs.
We worked collaboratively with the client to implement safety and logistical procedures to construct this facility, which is centrally located on the high-traffic (pedestrian & vehicular) campus. Crews faced further challenges as a separate road construction project was taking place immediately adjacent to our project site. Our comprehensive preconstruction services were utilized over an extended preconstruction phase to develop numerous solutions in addressing challenging budgetary limits.
VWCC’s president and a Virginia Community College System representative praised the Branch Builds STEM Building project team at the ribbon cutting and open house event on October 17, 2019. More than 300 attendees heard from local elected officials, business leaders, and students about the impact the new facility will have on growing the local economy through collaboration and innovation.
