We are pleased to announce Roads & Bridges Magazine has once again selected a Branch affiliated project as one of their Top 10 Roads of 2023 for the I-95 Fredericksburg Expressway, extending what is already dubbed “America’s Longest Reversible Road.”
This is the 5th consecutive year in which our Branch team members have been recognized for excellence in Road and Bridge building.
- 2023: I-95 Fredericksburg Express Lanes, Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties, VA
- 2022: Jamestown Parkway, Jamestown, North Carolina
- 2021: C.F. Harvey Parkway Extension, Lenoir County, North Carolina
- 2020: Maysville Bypass, Maysville, North Carolina
- 2019: Route 460 Southgate Connector
Branch, along with its joint venture partner Flatiron Construction Corp, contracted with 95Express (Transurban) to build the 10-mile extension project of the I-95 Express Lanes. The project began in 2019, but soon hit some complications with the discovery of a rare type of Potomac Formation soils. Due to the highly plastic nature of the soil, the team had to re-engineer parts of the project, which increased the scope and extended the timeline. The effective partnership formed between Transurban, VDOT and the Branch-Flatiron Joint Venture was instrumental in the project’s successful delivery.
The project team was pleased to open the last of the ramps on the evening of December 7, 2023.
This project increases capacity by 66% on one of the busiest and most congested highways in the United States. The improvements also allow better access to Quantico Marine Base and will generate an estimated $1 billion in economic impact to the region.
