TURNPIKE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION

The Portsmouth’s Turnpike Road Reconstruction Project has become a new connector route to I-264, the Elizabeth River Tunnel and Route 164 in the fast-growing Hampton Roads region. Daily traffic on this route continues to increase.
Branch was the General Contractor for the $23.4M project, which also improved vehicular and pedestrian safety by widening Turnpike Rd. from two lanes to four lanes with a 12-foot center median left turn lane. Sidewalks were added along with curbs and gutter.
The project was completed in five phases, with segments of the roadway closed during each phase. Detours were put in place during construction, allowing motorists to reach all locations on Turnpike Road.
